Plagiocephaly
Deformational plagiocephaly, or positional plagiocephaly, is when a baby develops a flat spot on one side of the head or the whole back of the head. It can happen for numerous reason, but the most common causes are when a baby sleeps in the same position most of the time or because of problems with tight neck muscles – known as torticollis. If you notice flat areas on you baby’s head, we suggest talking with your pediatrician. If repositioning and tummy time do not work, your physician may determine a cranial remolding orthosis is necessary.
Cranial Remolding Orthoses
Cranial Remolding Orthoses “CROs”, also known as “cranial bands” or “helmets”, are used to gently guide and correct the shape of a baby’s skull over time. The helmet essentially provides a desired shape for the head to grow into and is not painful for your baby to wear. The helmet is worn 23hrs/day and is removed for bathing purposes.
